i don’t believe in
superstitions
they only breed
unholy ignorance
can’t no rabbit’s foot
could ever fix

i don’t find trouble
in fearsome digits
when there are
way too many
demonic idiots
that have me counting to
six
six
six

i ain’t skeered of
crossin’ black cats or
tippin’ toes ’round
every street crack
to keep my mamma
upright

and i’m never one
for cussin’
when i’m given
a bakers dozen
12 + 1
is perfectly fine

good things
for me
it seems
always happen
in
thirteens
i don’t know
what else there is
to say
i guess i’m lucky
lucky
that way

I always said
I’d wait for you
til the cows came home

a problem
since I live nowhere
but here

and seldom is heard
an E I E I O
outside of PS 152

but here I stay
for years
for ever and a Tuesday

through radio days
and long distance nights
I am your eternal Gibralter

your faithful
winged backed
rude world blinder

in time I may go
but today, like every day
I stand guard, ready to serve

as Gershwin melodies
crumble through windows
and walls turn to clay

For Magpie Tales

pure

we love
pure, sacred
unfiltered

hearts racing
like raindrops
down windowpanes

every touch
kiss, cry
a biblical deluge

we love
pure, sacred
infinite

our past
cleansed
immaculate

our future
ignited
alive

aftermath

together
we work
twisting fallen branches
into shelter
sanctuary
for the wretched lost

no room
for anger and ego
no place for
such luxurious
self indulgences
as that

but for
perseverance, hope
and unfailing faith
there is
an infinite fortune
of welcoming space

for the wretched lost
we weave sanctuary
from fallen branches
unified by fire
together
we work
